Editing PNG assets sets the transparency to black

Uploading the png file to media as image asset works fine and the transparent background color is also present when the asset is displayed. In case the image is edited using the Contentful file editor the transparent background is saved as black and seizes to work.

What possibilities there are to edit an image and keep the transparency if we use the OOB file editor in Contentful?

Hi @kobemeat,

This is actually a problem with our utilized image editor, and our product team is already aware of such issue and looking into ways of overcoming it.

For now, the best way to go about this would be to:

  • Edit the image using a separate tool
  • If the changes to the image are doable using the features of the Images API, simply apply transformations upon getting the image

Hope this helps!

Hello @gabriel,

Thanks for the reply - not sure if this really helps but it’s good to know what is the situation

Is there a place where the status for this item and if you have some sort of a backlog for things that are under development?

Hey @kobemeat ,

We don’t really have a centralized spot with our backlog for features and bugs, but I’ll make sure to update this thread with any updates about this
